A free deed plotter for title professionals, attorneys, and landowners.
What is the Backstop Deed Plotter?
A free browser tool that draws (plots) the metes-and-bounds legal description from a deed, mortgage, or survey onto a satellite map, checks whether the boundary closes, and calculates acreage. It also overlays PLSS township, range, and section lines for states like Alabama.
Is my deed or client data uploaded to a server?
No. Everything — document OCR, plotting, and saved records — runs entirely in your browser and is stored locally on your computer. Nothing is sent to any server.
Can it read a scanned deed PDF?
Yes. Upload a PDF, image (JPG/PNG/TIFF), or Word document and the built-in OCR extracts the text so you can clean it up and plot the legal description.
Does a plot from this tool replace a survey?
No. The plotter is for informational and illustrative purposes only. It does not establish property boundaries, corners, encroachments, easements, or acreage. Hire a licensed land surveyor or civil engineer for that.

How this works: Enter the Township, Range, and Section from the deed. The section boundary will appear on the satellite map and the blue POB dot will be placed at the corner you select. Drag the blue dot to match the actual monument or corner you can see on the aerial photo. The parcel re-plots automatically when you drop it.
Records are stored locally in your browser. You can only see records you saved. The administrator can view all records. Nothing is sent to any server.
